Is NPR hopelessly liberal, living inside a bubble? Yes. They posted this online headline without any noticeable fraction of smirking irony:
Planned Parenthood Backs Biden, Seeing A ‘Life And Death Election’ Ahead
Planned Parenthood are the nation’s largest provider of abortions – merchants of death.
“This is literally a life and death election,” Alexis McGill Johnson, acting president of Planned Parenthood, told NPR ahead of the announcement. “We felt like we can’t endure another four years of Trump; we have to do everything we can to get him out of office.”
But the two-minute story NPR aired on Monday night’s All Things Considered once again mocked the show name. That ridiculous quote was left out….and so was any rebuttal from the pro-life side. They quoted McGill Johnson claiming their extreme abortion-on-demand stance is “where most Americans are,” and “We need to be able to kind of move past this very challenging, divisive, polarized era.”
At least the print article included Jeanne Mancini from the March for Life:
In response, Jeanne Mancini, president of the anti-abortion rights group March For Life, said in a statement, “It is offensive to hear our nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, an organization that claims the lives of 345,672 American babies annually (a third of all of the abortions in this country each year), call the 2020 cycle a ‘life and death’ election. Those who really care about protecting life realize that the election of Planned Parenthood-endorsed candidate, Joe Biden, will result in a major increase of tax dollars going to the billion-dollar organization, including direct payment for abortions, among other deadly consequences.”
The online article included the two-minute video endorsing Biden and trashing Trump:
On air, McCammon referred to Trump backers as “abortion rights opponents” backing “conservative judges.” No L-word was applied to Planned Parenthood or their extreme stands. Biden casting away the last moderate stance – not forcing pro-life taxpayers to fund abortions with their tax dollars – comes with the word “evolve.”
McCAMMON: While Biden has long supported abortion rights, he’s been seen as less progressive on the issue than many other Democrats, including his former rivals for the nomination. For decades, he supported the Hyde Amendment, which bans federal funds for most abortions, before reversing that position last year.
She asked if that will dampen enthusiasm in the “Democratic base”? “McGill Johnson says Biden has shown he’s been willing to listen and evolve.”
He’s “evolving” away from the Catholic Church teaching entirely, but that never came up. Last year, NPR let a Democrat operative claim “folks who know him know that he carries a rosary around with him, that he refers to his Catholic faith and that it’s, again, seen him through tough times. He quotes Kierkegaard near the end of the op-ed about faith seeing through darkness.”
Is this endorsement really a news story? NPR noted “Planned Parenthood has endorsed the Democratic presidential candidate in every election cycle since 2004 when former U.S. Sen. John Kerry was the nominee.” McCammon said Planned Parenthood plans to spend $45 million this election cycle – not noting they receive about half a billion dollars every year in federal funds.
